Neill has run an award winning, multi-country sports marketing agency as President Octagon EMEA – an IPG (NYSE) company, established a track record for delivering positive brand building and business solutions for brands in the financial services, automotive, retail, FMCG, telecommunications and sustainability sectors and developed expertise across major international sports events including Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, Super Bowl, America’s Cup and Commonwealth Games.
Inspired by President Nelson Mandela’s
belief in the power of sport to change the world and his first hand experience of how the 1995 Rugby World Cup
played a role in creating the new South Africa, Neill decided to focus his attention on things happening at the intersection of sport and purpose.
Neill has subsequently established himself as a thought leader in the purpose and sport space having led successful efforts to transform major events like Super Bowl 50 and the 34th America’s Cup into purpose-full endeavours that set a new benchmark for how major sports events and their sponsors activate purpose to do good and do well.
Neill is motivated by a desire to “do good and do well” and is a champion for Purpose as the business philosophy of the 21st Century.
Neill has worked in the international sports and entertainment business at the highest level over the last 25 years. During this time, he has held a number of executive leadership positions including that of President Octagon Worldwide EMEA and Chair of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Sustainability Committee. He has consulted to many major global brands in the financial services, automotive, retail, telecommunications and broadcast sectors and worked across many major international sports events including the Olympics, FIFA World Cup, Formula One, America’s Cup and Super Bowl. He has also served on two Bid committee’s including Cape Town 2004 Olympic Bid and San Francisco Super Bowl 50 Bid.Neill is a qualified Chartered Accountant having served articles with Deloitte in Cape Town, South Africa. Neill’s personal passion revolves around promoting and showcasing the “doing good while doing well” ethos and a belief that success does not have to come at the expense of the planet or the communities with which one interacts.
Neill published Passion Branding with John Wiley & Sons and regularly talks at major conferences and has recently spoken at TEDx San Francisco, Sustainable Brands, Green Sports Alliance Summit, Responsible Business Summit.
